Paolo Cimmino was born in Naples in 1964. He Studied Percussion Instruments and graduated in 1988 from the Conservatory of Salerno.
He began his career as a member of the San Carlo Theatre Orchestra of Naples, where he played for ten years.
At the same time he has studied ethnics music and jazz. He has participated in various master classes and workshops : African Percussion with F. Konate; Latin Percussion with L. Conte, jazz vibes with D. Fridman; South Indian Music with Trichy Sankaran, M. Sunderasan and Ghatam Suresh; Tabla with F. Senesi at the Conservatory in Vicenza.
Since 1994 he has been teaching Percussion Instruments at “G. Martucci” Conservatory in Salerno and appears as a guest educator at numerous other school as, for example, the University of Salerno (where he teaches Principles of Ethnic Music), the University of Music in Rome (frame drums).
In addition to his role as a educator, Paolo pursues an active free-lance career performing with many different artists and groups. He played with Tony Esposito, Lucio Dalla, “Tamburi del Vesuvio”, “Trio Shadows”, “Nuova Compagnia di Canto Popolare” and “Jingles & Frames”.
Paolo has also performed with such famous artists as Glen Velez, and Ganesh Kumar (who played in Paolo’s CD “For Gaya”) and Ghatam Suresh.
Paolo has written extensive educational material on the tamburello and its Technique, such as A new way of Playing Tamburello published by Note Di Merito (Italy), distributed by Versand H. Brandt (Germany) and by Mr Glen Velez (USA).
